💅🌧️ MEMAW’S ARCTIC ROLL: Rain, Roadwork & a Sky Full of Maybe
Memaw’s Arctic Roll for Wednesday, August 19, 2026
Rain still has the stage across Southcentral, honey, and Memaw has the windshield wipers working overtime. 💅☕🌧️ The sun is playing a little peek-a-boo through the clouds, but don’t let those brief appearances fool you. The wet stuff is still calling the shots today.
Wasilla is looking at a high near 60°F, Anchorage near 59°F, Kenai near 55°F, Seward near 54°F, and Homer near 58°F. Rain chances climb through the day, especially across the Kenai Peninsula and along the southern corridors.
And tonight? The aurora forecast is showing active activity, with a forecast Kp of 3 around 10 PM. The catch is the same one Memaw always gives you: clouds have to cooperate. 🌌☁️
☕️ Now, grab your coffee, give yourself a little extra stopping room, and keep your eyes on the road. Tonight’s sky may be worth looking up for, but today’s pavement deserves your full attention. 💅🌧️🌌
🟢🟡🔴 Daily Verdict: Wet Cruise with a Cloudy Northern Lights Maybe

- Status: Rain increasingly likely later today
- When: Showers early, with rain becoming more likely later
- Where it hits: Anchorage Bowl, Hillside approaches and connecting corridors
- Why: Increasing clouds with rain developing
- Reality check: Wet pavement plus a little Alaska road attitude is enough reason to slow down and increase following distance.

🌌 Aurora Watch
The Geophysical Institute forecast calls for active aurora activity Wednesday, with activity reaching Kp 5 at 1 AM, Kp 4 at the current period and again around 4 PM, and Kp 3 around 10 PM.
The forecast specifically says active auroral displays may be visible overhead from Utqiaġvik to Anchorage and Juneau if skies are clear.
Tonight’s problem is not the aurora forecast.
It’s the clouds.
🌌 Memaw’s advice: Don’t give up on the sky completely. Check it later if the clouds break. Alaska likes to keep a few surprises in her purse.
💅 Memaw’s Parting Words
Rain doesn’t mean cancel everything. It means quit driving like the road owes you something. 🏎️💨 Slow down, leave room, watch the work zones and don’t waste precious fuel on the imaginary race.
And if those clouds happen to part tonight? Well, honey, grab your coat, step outside and look up. 🌌💅 Until tomorrow, sugar, keep your eyes on the road, your wits about you, and drive alive from dawn to night. 💖
