Memaw’s Arctic Roll for Friday, October 30, 2026 Good morning, Alaska! Mother Nature apparently decided Halloween needed a little extra drama. We’ve got wind gusts strong enough to rearrange your yard, rain working overtime, and a few roads that deserve more respect than your average haunted house. 💨🌧️ And, guess what? October 30 is National Candy Corn Day, celebrating a sweet that has been part of America’s fall traditions for more than a century. First introduced in the 1880s, candy corn was originally sold under the name “Chicken Feed.” That was some clever candy branding long before Halloween treats became big business! 🐔🍬 Its familiar orange, yellow and white layers weren’t chosen just for a festive look. Each piece was designed to resemble a single kernel of corn, giving the candy the appearance of a miniature ear of corn. The design reflected a time when corn was a familiar part of American farm life and a symbol of the fall harvest. Memaw’s Arctic Roll for Wednesday, October 28, 2026 Good morning, road warriors! 💅 Mother Nature has put Southcentral Alaska inside a frosty fishbowl, and visibility is taking the morning off. Dense fog has settled over the Mat-Su Valley, Anchorage, Eagle River and parts of the Kenai Peninsula, with visibility dropping to a quarter-mile or less in affected areas. Temperatures are below freezing in several communities, so that innocent-looking pavement could be hiding a slippery surprise.
