Alaska has always called to adventurers. Now, more women are answering that call with a fishing rod in hand.

Across the state, women-only fishing adventures are creating something bigger than a day on the water. They are giving women a place to learn, laugh, challenge themselves, build friendships, and experience Alaska’s legendary wilderness surrounded by others who share their curiosity and sense of adventure.

For some, the goal is landing a salmon. For others, it is proving they can step into a wild place, try something new, and discover a confidence they did not know they had.

The fish may be the destination. The transformation is the journey.

Walking into the world of fishing for the first time can feel intimidating.

There are rods to choose, knots to tie, rivers to read, and plenty of new skills to master. Women-only fishing trips change that experience by creating supportive spaces where questions are welcome, beginners are encouraged, and every accomplishment is celebrated.

Women’s Flyfishing Alaska, a woman-owned Alaska outfitter, has built its adventures around helping women discover the confidence that comes from learning to fish in Alaska’s wild places. Their women-focused trips reach some of the state’s most iconic destinations, including the Kenai River, the Naknek River, Nome, Paxson, and the remote Tangle Lakes region.
The Tangle Lakes Grayling Academy gives women the opportunity to learn fly fishing fundamentals while surrounded by Alaska’s wilderness. Participants learn casting techniques, gear basics, fly selection, and how to read the water while building friendships with other women anglers.
The Alaska Girls Getaway in Soldotna brings women together for a shared Alaska fishing adventure filled with salmon, scenery, laughter, and the kind of memories that begin with a cast and continue long after the trip ends.

United Women on the Fly has created a community where women can learn, connect, and experience Alaska’s legendary fisheries together. Through hosted women-only trips with partner lodges, participants can experience float-plane fly-outs, sockeye and king salmon fishing, and unforgettable wildlife encounters.
Adventures near Alaska’s Naknek and Brooks Rivers, including stays at Lodge at 58 North, combine education, adventure, and the remote beauty of Alaska’s wilderness.

Wilderness Lodges Designed for Women

For women looking for an all-inclusive Alaska escape, several lodges have created experiences where fishing is paired with the full wilderness adventure.
