Alaska has always called to adventurers. Now, more women are answering that call with a fishing rod in hand.
Across the state, women-only fishing adventures are creating something bigger than a day on the water. They are giving women a place to learn, laugh, challenge themselves, build friendships, and experience Alaska’s legendary wilderness surrounded by others who share their curiosity and sense of adventure.
For some, the goal is landing a salmon. For others, it is proving they can step into a wild place, try something new, and discover a confidence they did not know they had.
The fish may be the destination. The transformation is the journey.
Where Women Learn to Fish

Walking into the world of fishing for the first time can feel intimidating.
There are rods to choose, knots to tie, rivers to read, and plenty of new skills to master. Women-only fishing trips change that experience by creating supportive spaces where questions are welcome, beginners are encouraged, and every accomplishment is celebrated.
- Women’s Flyfishing Alaska, a woman-owned Alaska outfitter, has built its adventures around helping women discover the confidence that comes from learning to fish in Alaska’s wild places. Their women-focused trips reach some of the state’s most iconic destinations, including the Kenai River, the Naknek River, Nome, Paxson, and the remote Tangle Lakes region.
- The Tangle Lakes Grayling Academy gives women the opportunity to learn fly fishing fundamentals while surrounded by Alaska’s wilderness. Participants learn casting techniques, gear basics, fly selection, and how to read the water while building friendships with other women anglers.
- The Alaska Girls Getaway in Soldotna brings women together for a shared Alaska fishing adventure filled with salmon, scenery, laughter, and the kind of memories that begin with a cast and continue long after the trip ends.
A Sisterhood Built on the Water
A great fishing trip is about more than what comes to the end of the line. It is the stories shared around the table. The encouragement after a missed cast. The excitement when someone lands their first fish.
- United Women on the Fly has created a community where women can learn, connect, and experience Alaska’s legendary fisheries together. Through hosted women-only trips with partner lodges, participants can experience float-plane fly-outs, sockeye and king salmon fishing, and unforgettable wildlife encounters.
- Adventures near Alaska’s Naknek and Brooks Rivers, including stays at Lodge at 58 North, combine education, adventure, and the remote beauty of Alaska’s wilderness.
Wilderness Lodges Designed for Women
For women looking for an all-inclusive Alaska escape, several lodges have created experiences where fishing is paired with the full wilderness adventure.
Alaska’s Bearclaw Lodge offers its Ladies Lodge Adventure for women traveling solo or with friends.

Located in the Bristol Bay and Katmai region, the experience combines guided salmon fly fishing with hiking, kayaking, and time immersed in one of Alaska’s most spectacular landscapes.
In Southeast Alaska, Wild Strawberry Lodge and Alaska Premier Charters offer women-focused saltwater fishing experiences in Sitka.
Women anglers can head into Alaska’s coastal waters in search of salmon, halibut, and rockfish while enjoying the beauty of Southeast Alaska’s mountains, forests, and ocean.
From remote rivers to open seas, these experiences are built around the idea that Alaska’s wild places are meant to be explored.

Finding Adventure Beyond the Catch
For some women, an Alaska fishing trip begins with one goal: catch a fish. For others, it begins with a bigger question:
“What am I capable of?”
Wild Alaska Women creates small-group women’s adventures throughout Alaska, combining world-class fishing with other unforgettable experiences, including glacier viewing, rafting, and wildlife tours. These trips are designed for women who want more than a vacation.

They are looking for more than a fishing trip. They are looking for the kind of experience that changes how they see themselves and the wild around them.
Adventure does not belong only to those with years of experience. Sometimes it begins with a simple decision to try, to learn, and to answer the call of Alaska.
Opening the Door for More Women Anglers
Not every woman’s first fishing adventure begins at a remote lodge. Sometimes it begins with an invitation.
Trout Unlimited Alaska’s Women on the Water initiative provides free, hands-on fishing education, fly-tying events, and opportunities for women to build outdoor skills and confidence.

With gear available for participants who need it, the program helps remove barriers and makes it easier for more women to experience the excitement of being on the water.
Because every experienced angler was once a beginner.

Her Alaska Story Begins Here
You do not have to arrive in Alaska knowing how to cast perfectly. You do not have to know every fish species or every technique. You just have to be willing to answer the call.
Because Alaska has always called to adventurers.
For generations, people have come north searching for wild places, new challenges, and unforgettable moments. Today, more women are answering that call with a fishing rod in hand, finding not only fish beneath the surface, but confidence, connection, and a community waiting beside the water.
Somewhere in Alaska, a group of women is standing along a wild river, watching the current, sharing stories, and waiting for the next bite. And when that line pulls tight, she will not just be catching a fish.
She will be catching a moment. A memory. A reminder that the wild was never a place she had to earn her way into.
It was a place waiting for her all along.
