Midland police say the active shooter incident near West Wall Street and Business 20 has been resolved, and the suspect is confirmed deceased. Authorities emphasized that while the immediate threat has ended, the scene remains active and has not yet been cleared as investigators continue processing evidence.

Road closures in the area are expected to remain in place for the foreseeable future, and officials are urging residents to avoid the area while law enforcement continues its work. The City of Midland and Midland Police Department are expected to provide additional updates as the investigation develops.

Police have not yet released further details about the suspect or confirmed how the situation unfolded inside the affected area. The earlier emergency response drew a large law enforcement presence, with armored units and tactical teams securing the corridor and diverting traffic around Business 20 and surrounding streets.

Midland officials are continuing to coordinate with emergency services as they assess the full scope of the incident and begin the process of clearing the scene.

Separate officer shooting case still active

In a separate but ongoing investigation, Midland Police continue to search for a suspect accused of firing on a police officer during a traffic stop earlier this week. That suspect allegedly exchanged gunfire with officers before fleeing and remains at large. Authorities have described the individual as armed and dangerous.

Officials have not indicated any confirmed connection between that case and the now-resolved active shooter incident.

What remains unknown

Despite the resolution of the immediate threat in the Wall Street incident, several key questions remain unanswered, including the suspect’s identity, motive, and how the situation escalated inside the area. Investigators have also not released information about how the weapon was obtained or whether any prior warning signs existed.

Events still scheduled despite tensions

Despite the ongoing investigation and continued road closures near the scene, some events outside the restricted area remain scheduled to proceed Friday, including a concert at Horseshoe Arena, though officials are advising the public to monitor updates and expect delays or increased security presence.
