The Seward Highway is serving up front-row seats to Alaskaโs โWow!โ
Memaw’s Arctic Roll Through the Cones for Sunday, June 7, 2026
Welcome to an Alaska summer Sunday, where the roads are open, the mountains are showing off, and every construction cone in the state appears to be attending the same family reunion.
Today’s travel forecast is pretty simple: decent weather, long daylight hours, and a healthy serving of roadwork. The Glenn has bridge construction, the Seward has work crews, the Sterling has flaggers, and every tourist with a camera has suddenly remembered they don’t actually have to be anywhere on time.
Take a breath before you pass that RV, give the flaggers a friendly wave, and don’t start a blood feud over a zipper merge. Getting there five minutes later still beats explaining to your insurance company why you couldn’t wait your turn. ๐
๐ข๐ก๐ด Daily Verdict: Easy Cruise, Construction Included
- Roads: Generally dry with construction impacts on several major corridors.
- Traffic: Light to moderate, with localized slowdowns in active work zones.
- Sky: Mostly cloudy at times. Aurora activity remains elevated overhead, but daylight and cloud cover will make viewing difficult tonight.

๐ Aurora Outlook Tonight
Geomagnetic activity remains elevated with forecast Kp values around 4-5. Under dark winter skies that would be enough to get aurora watchers excited. Unfortunately, Southcentral Alaska is approaching peak summer daylight and cloud cover remains a limiting factor. If skies briefly clear after midnight, northern communities have the best chance at catching faint activity.
๐ Memaw’s Parting Words
Summer in Alaska is a special season. The moose are wandering, the tourists are sightseeing, the RVs are sightseeing harder, and the construction crews are trying to repair an entire winter’s worth of road damage before the snow comes back.
Give the flaggers a wave. Give the work crews some room. Leave a little extra space behind that camper doing 48 in a 65. And if somebody executes a perfect zipper merge today, take note. You may have just witnessed one of Alaska’s rarest wildlife sightings.
๐๐จ As always, hon. Drive alive from dawn to night ๐ถ๐
