Memaw’s Arctic Roll isn’t just icy today, sugar. It’s downright bite-you-through-your-coat cold. 💅
The Lower Matanuska Valley is under a Severe Weather Advisory until 1 PM today, with wind chills plunging to 25 below zero thanks to persistent northeast winds. At that level, the National Weather Service warns exposed skin can develop frostbite in about 15 minutes.
That means your morning commute through Wasilla, Palmer, Sutton, and the Valley highways isn’t just slippery, it’s dangerously cold if you get stranded, stop to help someone, or step out to scrape your windshield.
The good news: winds should ease later today, allowing wind chills to rebound into the teens above zero by afternoon. The bad news: after dark tonight, those wind chills are expected to drop again where the wind keeps blowing.
So today’s Arctic Roll advice is simple: Layer up, keep the gas tank healthy, and don’t linger outside longer than you have to.

💖 Memaw’s Parting Words
Listen to your old Memaw a minute.
🧤When the wind chill hits 25 below, it’s not just cold. It’s the kind of cold that punishes mistakes. That means hats, gloves, boots, and maybe that extra pair of mittens you swore you didn’t need.
Drive slow, keep a blanket in the car, and remember: the Arctic Roll will still be there tomorrow, but only if we all get home safe today. 💖
Drive safe, from dawn ’till night. ❄️🚗
