💅💖🚗✨ Memaw’s Arctic Roll: Remember, Reflect, Then Roll
Today calls for a little more than checking the gas gauge and grabbing your coffee. September 11 is a day to remember the people we lost, the people who ran toward danger, and the ordinary acts of courage that followed. So we pause, we remember, and then we do what people have always done: take care of each other and keep moving forward. 💙

Now, about that commute: Southcentral wakes up cool and foggy, then settles into a pretty darn nice Friday. Sunshine takes over, temperatures climb into the 50s and 60s, and most major roads are looking like an easy roll. The Glenn, however, still has construction gymnastics going on, so Memaw has her nails pointed that way. 💅

- Roads: Alaska 511 is the place to check live road conditions, incidents and work zones before leaving. Current conditions do not show a broad Southcentral road emergency.
- Traffic: Light, with the biggest planned headache being the ongoing Glenn Highway bridge work.
- Sky: Mostly clear to start, then clouds increase tonight. Aurora activity is forecast to be low. If the clouds cooperate, a faint display may be possible, but Memaw is not promising the sky will put on a show.

🌌 Tonight’s Aurora Reality Check
The Geophysical Institute’s Friday forecast calls for low aurora activity. The forecast reaches Kp 3 during portions of the day, but drops to Kp 1 around 4 a.m. Saturday. The institute says low-level displays could be visible overhead farther north, while Anchorage is near the southern edge where a display could appear low on the northern horizon if skies are clear.
And tonight’s New Moon gives whatever faint aurora manages to show itself a darker backdrop. 🌚
The catch? Clouds. Anchorage and Wasilla are expected to become increasingly cloudy overnight, with rain arriving later. So Memaw’s official aurora advice is: maybe, but don’t put on your fancy pants yet.
💅 Memaw’s Parting Words
Friday gives us a reason to remember, a reason to be grateful, and a pretty decent reason to get out the door.
Take a breath for September 11. Remember the lives, the courage and the kindness. Then buckle up, give the next driver a little grace, and roll into the weekend like you’ve got somewhere good to be.
Alaska’s state flower carries a name that feels especially powerful on September 11. These tiny blue blooms remind us that remembrance does not have to be loud to be lasting.
