Valdez is pronounced Val-DEEZ. Visitors usually hear it once, get corrected kindly, and move on remembering it.

This small harbor town sits on Prince William Sound, framed by the Chugach Mountains. In summer, it becomes a working waterfront and adventure base for glaciers, waterfalls, fishing, and coastal mountain travel.

What to Do in Valdez

Valdez packs a lot into a small area:

  • Columbia Glacier boat tours through Prince William Sound
  • Keystone Canyon waterfalls, including Bridal Veil Falls and multiple roadside cascades
  • Copper River salmon fishing
  • Hiking and ridge trails in the Chugach Mountains
  • A busy harbor with fishing boats and tour vessels throughout the day

Water defines the landscape here: Glaciers, rivers, and constant mountain runoff shaping everything around town.
