Well good morning, sugar. If you stepped outside in the Mat-Su this morning and your garbage can tried to migrate to Canada, you already know what kind of day we’re dealing with.
The valley wind machine is running full tilt today. The Lower Matanuska Valley is under a Wind Advisory through midnight, with northeast winds running 25 to 45 mph and gusts that could reach 50 to 60 mph. The roughest blasts are expected near and north of Palmer, while Wasilla and areas farther west will still see plenty of gusty moments.
What does that mean for drivers? Strong crosswinds in open stretches, the chance of blowing snow in exposed spots, and the occasional surprise shove when a gust hits your vehicle sideways.
This isn’t a “stay home and panic” situation. But it is a hands-on-the-wheel, eyes-up kind of Alaska driving day.
👉🏿 And, if you’re heading to Homer for the 32nd Annual Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament, it’s been postponed for the second time due to weather, folks. More on that below. ⬇️
So pour that coffee, check the mirrors, and let’s roll. 💅

💅 Memaw’s Parting Words
💖 Alright honey, here’s the truth of it.
Today isn’t about snowstorms or blizzards. It’s about wind. The kind that grabs your truck door, rattles the stop signs, and reminds you that the Mat-Su Valley is basically nature’s wind tunnel.
Slow it down a notch. Leave extra space between vehicles. And, if a gust shoves your rig sideways a little, don’t panic. Just steady the wheel and keep rolling.
Because up here in Alaska, we don’t cancel the drive unless it’s an absolute must.
🚙💨 We just drive smarter.
Now go on.
Memaw’s watching the road with you. 💅
