🌧️💅 Memaw’s Arctic Roll: Wipers Up. Let’s Roll 🚗💨
Memaw’s Arctic Roll for Wednesday, July 22, 2026
☕️ Good Wednesday morning, neighbors.
This is one of those Alaska days that likes to play tricks. The coffee’s hot, the windshield isn’t working too hard yet, and you might think, “Looks like a decent drive.” Then late this afternoon the skies decide to cash in every rain check they’ve been saving.
If you’ve got errands, travel, or a longer drive planned, the first half of the day is your friend. By evening, much of Southcentral will be dealing with widespread rain, reduced visibility, and slick pavement.
🟡 Daily Verdict: Wet Roads. Busy Work Zones.
- Roads: Rain is falling across much of Southcentral, with active construction on the Glenn, Seward, and Sterling Highways. No major crash-related closures have been reported, but wet pavement and work zones will keep drivers on their toes.
- Traffic: The morning commute is expected to be steady with normal peak-hour slowdowns through construction areas. Build in a few extra minutes, especially where lane shifts and reduced speed limits are in effect.
- Sky: A quiet Kp 2 geomagnetic forecast is overshadowed by thick clouds and widespread rain, making aurora viewing unlikely tonight.

💅 Memaw’s Parting Words
Sugar, if you’ve got patio chairs, hanging baskets, or anything else that likes to take flight, today is a good day to button it down. The rain isn’t done with us, and a Wind Advisory takes effect at 1:00 AM Thursday for Anchorage and Eagle River. The strongest gusts, up to 50 mph, are expected between 3:00 AM and 9:00 AM, which could make tomorrow morning’s commute a little more interesting, especially along Turnagain Arm.
For today, take it easy on the wet roads, give the work zones a little extra patience, and we’ll meet back here tomorrow morning to see what Mother Nature has in store next. Drive alive from dawn to night, neighbors. 💅 💖
