Well sugar, this rain has decided to overstay its welcome and get a little dramatic about it. What started as a polite drizzle over the weekend has worked itself up into honest-to-goodness “do not pass” territory down through Turnagain Arm, so if you’re Seward-bound today, budget extra time and extra patience. The Kp index actually ticked up to a 4 overnight, which would normally have Memaw excited about aurora chances, but with this much cloud stacked over Southcentral, the lights don’t stand a chance of poking through tonight. Mat-Su folks get off easier with scattered showers instead of a soaking, and there’s still plenty of construction out there keeping everybody honest. Slow is smooth today, neighbors, and smooth is how you get home in one piece.

🔴 Daily Verdict: Turnagain Says “Not So Fast”

• Roads: Wet pavement statewide across Southcentral, with the most serious impacts along the Seward Highway through Turnagain Arm, where Alaska 511 has posted “do not pass” warnings for heavy rain and gusty wind.
• Traffic: Light overall, no major statewide closures, but active construction zones on the Parks, Glenn, and Sterling Highways will slow you down more than the rain will.
• Sky: Kp climbing to 4 tonight, a step up from the recent quiet stretch, but thick cloud cover from this rain system will block nearly all of it from view.

Impact: Reduced visibility, standing water, and no-passing conditions along the cliffside curves.
