Well now, step outside this morning and you’ll understand why Alaska keeps block heaters in business. 💅 A Severe Weather Advisory is in effect for the Lower Matanuska Valley as wind chills plunge into the 30 to 35 below zero rangefrom Wasilla to Palmer and Sutton. At those temperatures, frostbite can show up on exposed skin in less than 20 minutes, and even the hardiest pickup takes a minute to shake off the cold.
Expect the nastiest wind chills during the late night and early morning hours, with a little daytime relief before the deep freeze settles right back in.
And once you thaw out, we’ve got a couple ways to warm the spirit later on. Scroll down for details on Homer’s Murder Mystery Weekend, a coastal whodunit worth dying for, and a Friday night acoustic set from Schaefer Mueller at Susitna Brewing in Big Lake.

Memaw’s Parting Words
Alright sugar, this isn’t just “a little chilly.” This is plug-in-the-truck, double-check-the-mittens, and don’t-lick-the-metal kind of cold.
When wind chills start flirting with 35 below, frostbite doesn’t wait politely. It shows up fast. So cover the skin, warm the vehicle, and give yourself extra stopping distance because ice loves these temperatures almost as much as Alaska does.
Drive safe, keep the coffee hot, and if the northern lights decide to peek out tonight, step outside just long enough to admire them before the cold reminds you who’s boss.
Let’s roll. 💅
