Memaw’s Arctic Roll Special 💅

Well now sugar, Memaw had to put her mittens back on just to type this update. Southcentral Alaska is sitting in one of those bone-biting cold snaps where the air feels like it could snap a windshield if you look at it wrong.

And just in time for the Friday drive home, Mother Nature decided to sprinkle in fresh snow and gusty winds. The National Weather Service says 3 to 5 inches of snow could fall between this afternoon and early Saturday, with blowing snow reducing visibility across Anchorage, Eagle River, and the Mat-Su Valley.

Meanwhile the roads are already getting cranky:

• Multiple accidents already reported on the Glenn Highway near the Knik River Bridge this afternoon slowing traffic in both directions.
• Snow is building along the Seward and Sterling Highways, where heavier bands are expected tonight.
• Gusty winds and blowing snow could turn the evening commute into a slow dance with the ditch.

Memaw’s translation:
If you don’t absolutely have to drive like you’re in the Iditarod ceremonial start, don’t.

Now let’s take a look at the roads one by one.

Memaw’s Parting Words 💅

Alright sweetheart, here’s the truth from someone who’s driven Alaska roads longer than most snowplows.

Tonight’s commute is a tricky cocktail of brutal cold, fresh snow, and impatient Friday drivers. That’s the kind of mix that turns a normal highway into a skating rink real fast.

Slow down.
Leave space.
And remember that every bridge in Southcentral freezes before the rest of the road does.

Memaw would much rather see you arrive late than end up sideways in a snowbank waving at the tow truck.

Drive alive from dawn to night. ❄️🚗

Memaw’s road rule for Alaska drivers: Drive alive from dawn to night. ❄️🚗 A little rhythm for the road and a reminder that safe travels never go out of style. | Alaska Headline Living ©
