💅 Before we go any further, you need to understand something about Memaw. She does not simply “check the road conditions.” Oh no. She runs every forecast, advisory, and snow report through her own highly developed, completely unofficial, absolutely trusted Traffic Light System.
It’s how she decides whether she’s grabbing her keys or grabbing a blanket.
Because around here, we don’t gamble with the Glenn. We color-code it. 🚦
Here’s how it works:
🟢 Green means roll on, darling. Roads are behaving.
🟡 Yellow means slow your roll. Extra time. Extra patience.
🔴 Red means stay home unless it’s an emergency or someone’s frying bacon.
So after a second look at today’s Winter Weather Advisory for the Lower Matanuska Valley, with 4 to 7 inches of snow and visibility dropping to half a mile at times, Memaw is officially changing the light.
This is no longer a cautious Yellow.
☕️ This is a firm, cozy-sock, pour-another-cup-of-coffee …
🔴 Red.
And when Memaw calls Red, she means it.
After a second look at today’s Winter Weather Advisory, Memaw is officially flipping the light to:
🔴 RED.
Here’s why.
Snow totals of 4 to 7 inches in the Lower Mat Valley.
Visibility dropping to half a mile at times.
Active snowfall through the day.
And a return drive that could be slicker once temps drop and traffic churns it all up.
Can you technically drive it? Probably.
Is it worth white knuckles, tense shoulders, and squinting through blowing snow? Not today.
🤼 Memaw says a wrestling meet is important. But, so is not testing your guardian angel on the Glenn.
Red means:
• No unnecessary heroics.
• No proving you’re “used to Alaska roads.”
• No stressing yourself out for pride.
Red means cozy socks.
Red means cheering from afar.
Red means living to drive another day.
If the road clears later, we reassess.
Until then, Memaw’s staying put. 🚦❄️♥️
Memaw’s parting wisdom?
Plans can be rescheduled. Trophies can be celebrated later. But peace of mind and safe roads are worth protecting every single time. If the weather is throwing a fit, let it. You don’t have to. Stay smart, stay steady, and live to drive another day. 🚦
💅
