Slush, Sleet, and Sass on the Roads

💅 Well sugar, Old Memaw’s been watchin’ the weather folks up at NOAA and Weather.gov say you ain’t just drivin’ in snow tomorrow eve. They’ve put up a Winter Weather Advisory for our patch with mixed precip, inching rain and snow, gusty winds, ice and all the fun that makes you wonder why you didn’t just stay in bed. Expect slick roads likely into Friday morning too. Buckle up and heed this warning. 🚗

🌲 Parks Highway

Parks Hwy & Palmer Wasilla Hwy | Alaska 511
Time of DayHi/Lo TemperaturesDriving Tips
Morning14°F to 32°FRoads likely slick from overnight snow patches. Take it slow and give extra space.
Afternoon32°F to 36°FTemps near freeze and thaw’ll make slush. Keep eyes on windshield and slow down.
Evening30°F to 35°FAdvisory kicks in and ice could form fast. Think about stayin’ home early if you can.

🛣️ Glenn Highway

Glenn Highway @ Eagle River Bridge MP 12.8 | Alaska 511
Time of DayHi/Lo TemperaturesDriving Tips
Morning14°F to 32°FSome snow still on the ground. Ice loves to hide so watch for shiny spots.
Afternoon32°F to 36°FWarm enough to rain on frozen roads. That’s slick city right there.
Evening30°F to 35°FMixed precip likely. Slow, steady, and eyes peeled is the Memaw way.

🚗 Seward Highway

Seward Highway @ Huffman Road MP 120 | Alaska 511
Time of DayHi/Lo TemperaturesDriving Tips
Morning21°F to 26°FSnow around and roads cold. Studded tires make Memaw proud of ya.
Afternoon26°F to 36°FSnow with blowing snow then mix near valley. Keep distance and slow.
Evening35°FRain mixing with snow makes slick black ice once temps drop.

🛤️ Sterling Highway: Homer

Iconic Salty Dawg Saloon on Homer Spit, Alaska’s legendary 1897 cabin-turned-bar, adorned with signed dollar bills from fishermen and visitors.
Sterling Hwy & Main St – Homer | Alaska 511
Time of DayHi/Lo TemperaturesDriving Tips
Morning5°F to 13°FBitter cold start. Black ice is sneaky so ease off the gas.
Afternoon13°F to 33°FSnow then wintry mix. Roads will be messy and slow is still best.
Evening31°FMix with rain possible, then refreeze. If you don’t gotta go, don’t.

Memaw’s Two Cents:
This ain’t no ordinary cold snap. NOAA-sized weather’s comin’ through with rain on snow and icy roads that’ll make your teeth chatter and your knuckles white. If you can put off travel Thursday evening or Friday morning, do it. If not, leave early, go slow, and don’t rush. Put on those cozy socks, check your tires, and bring extra patience with ya. Protective gear in the car never hurt either. Stay safe out there. 👵
