🚨 BREAKING: High Wind Warning Issued for Lower Matanuska Valley as Dangerous Gusts Expected Near 80 MPH

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for the Lower Matanuska Valley, warning residents to prepare for potentially damaging winds, extreme wind chills, and power outages beginning Sunday at noon and lasting through noon Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Anchorage, northeast winds of 35 to 50 mph are expected, with powerful gusts ranging from 60 to 80 mph.

What to Expect Today

Winds will gradually increase through Sunday morning, with hazardous conditions developing by midday. While gusty conditions may be noticeable earlier in the day, the strongest and most dangerous winds are not expected until later Sunday afternoon.

Forecasters say the most intense winds are expected between 3 p.m. Sunday and 3 a.m. Monday, when gusts could reach up to 80 mph.

In addition to the wind, dangerously cold wind chill values of 10 below to 25 below zero are expected, creating a serious risk of frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
