Brought to you by The Memaw Method, where safety comes with a smile and a cinnamon roll.

Good morning, sugar. If you are up before sunrise and thinking about facing that cold steering wheel, Memaw has your weather, your roads, and your common sense all wrapped up tidy for you.
The Mat-Su Valley remains the focus point this morning. The High Wind Warning is still in effect until 6:00 a.m. AKST, and the cold is biting across Southcentral Alaska. Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula are chilly and clear with a quiet sky, but the Mat-Su still has gusts strong enough to slap the car door out of your hand.
Temperatures across Southcentral:
Morning low: 4 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit
Afternoon high: Around 13 degrees Fahrenheit
Wind: Strongest in the Mat-Su early morning with gradual calming later
āļø Weather and Road Conditions Table
(Clean, corrected, punctuation-appropriate, and Memaw-approved.)
| Weather or Hazard | Road Conditions | Memawās Safety Tips |
|---|---|---|
| High Wind Warning until 6 a.m. Gusts 60 to 75 mph in the Mat-Su | Blowing snow, drifting powder, sudden crosswind pockets on exposed stretches, possible debris from trees or unsecured items | Keep a firm grip on that wheel. Give yourself time. If something blows across the road, do not swerve like you are auditioning for a stunt show. |
| Cold temperatures between 4 and 9 degrees | High probability of black ice on bridges, shaded areas, and ramps. Fresh freeze on any moisture left from the winds. | If the pavement looks shiny, treat it like glass. Accelerate slow, turn slow, brake slow. Your guardian angel is tired this week. Help her help you. |
| Winds calming by afternoon | Roads begin to stabilize. Visibility improves. Hazard risk declines but slick spots remain where the sun does not reach. | Run your errands later if possible. Your morning commute is not the time to show off. Keep your winter kit in the car and pack a snack just in case. |
š Highway-by-Highway Conditions
George Parks Highway

The Parks is waking up grumpy. Early morning gusts are still sweeping across open areas near Palmer and Wasilla. The pavement is cold enough to hide black ice in plain sight. Traffic is moving but cautious.
Memaw says: Treat those bridges gently. Two hands on the wheel and no tailgating unless you want to exchange insurance cards before breakfast.
Glenn Highway

The Glenn has clear skies but temperatures are cold enough to coat shaded corners with invisible ice. No significant closures reported this morning. Expect normal commuter traffic with slickness in the usual trouble spots.
Memaw says: Let your tires warm up before you start behaving like you are late to a bake sale.
Seward Highway

The Seward looks calm and clear. The cold will make the road stiff and icy in pockets, especially near Turnagain Arm. No current incidents reported.
Memaw says: Watch for those surprise icy stripes where the sun has not touched. Do not trust pretty pavement.
Sterling Highway

The Sterling is quiet this morning. It is cold enough for widespread patchy ice, especially on bridges and slopes where the cold settles overnight.
Memaw says: Treat the whole drive like a church hallway. Calm, respectful, and no sudden moves.
š Final Memaw Reminders
⢠Secure anything outside that could take flight. The wind may calm later, but it is not done with us yet.
⢠Dress warm. You are not tougher than frostbite, sweetheart.
⢠Keep a winter kit in your vehicle. Blankets, gloves, water, snacks, flashlight, scraper, and a phone charger.
⢠Slow your roll. The goal is to arrive alive, not to slide into the parking lot sideways.
