APD Warns Shoppers: Stay Sharp on Black Friday & Beyond
Anchorage Police Department – 7 hours ago

With the busiest shopping day of the year in full swing, Anchorage Police are urging residents to keep safety top-of-mind amid crowded stores and jammed parking lots.
APD’s top reminders for keeping both yourself and your purchases secure:
- Keep purses attached to your body and wallets in your front pocket.
- Lock your car — and don’t leave it running.
- Hide shopping bags if you must leave items in your vehicle.
- Park in well-lit areas, use the buddy system, and designate check-in times when splitting up.
- Use a single credit card for holiday shopping and keep receipts on your person.
- Stay aware of your surroundings; check your vehicle interior before entering.
- Drivers: slow down, use blinkers, and watch for pedestrians.
- Online shoppers: keep eyes on your doorstep and consider doorbell cameras.
If a porch pirate strikes, APD encourages residents to file reports online or call 3-1-1 if suspect details are available.
“Stay safe out there, Anchorage!” the department said.
