Singer–songwriter Jackson Browne confirmed in a somber Facebook post that his son, Ethan Browne, has died. He was 52 years old.
In the statement shared early Wednesday, Browne wrote that Ethan died on the morning of November 25, 2025, and asked the public and media to respect the family’s privacy during their grief. Browne did not share a cause of death, and said no additional information would be released “at this time.”
The family’s announcement is the only primary source regarding Ethan’s passing. As of today, no hospital, police department, or medical examiner’s office has issued a public statement. Major outlets including People, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, and The Hollywood Reporter all relied directly on Browne’s post in their reporting and confirmed that no official details about the circumstances or cause of death have been released.
Ethan Browne was born to Jackson Browne and actress-model Phyllis Major. When he was just six months old, he appeared with his father on the 1974 cover of Rolling Stone, a striking image that marked his early introduction to the public eye.
As an adult, Ethan built a multifaceted artistic career. He appeared in several film and television roles including Hackers(1995), Birds of Prey (2002), and Raising Helen (2004). He also worked as a model for high-profile designers such as Isaac Mizrahi. In addition, he had ties within the music industry through Spinside Records, reflecting the creative world he grew up in.
Though he kept a relatively private life in recent years, family and colleagues often described him as steady, kind, and deeply committed to his loved ones. In a 2022 reflection, Jackson Browne publicly praised his son, calling Ethan “a great father, a great son, a great man.”
The music community, fans, and friends have begun sharing condolences online, but the Browne family has made clear they are grieving out of the public eye.
For now, Jackson Browne’s Facebook message stands as the family’s only statement. A quiet note of loss from a father mourning his son.
