By Gina Hill | Alaska Headline Living | May 7, 2026

Picture this: shimmering scales, pirate swagger, and a harbor alive with mer-magic. Seward’s 9th annual Mermaid Festival dives deep into ocean whimsy next weekend, blending bold creativity with Alaska’s salty soul.

Siren Call Schedule

  • Friday, May 15: Pub crawl kicks off at 6 PM. Mermaids and pirates prowl local taverns in full fin-ery.
  • Saturday, May 16: Noon to 8 PM at Seward Small Boat Harbor (1300 4th Ave). Vendors, crafts, and the epic “Finfolk” boat race to Thumb’s Cove, hosted by William H. Seward Yacht Club.

This year’s theme? Día de las Sirenas, a vibrant mash-up of mermaid mystique and Day of the Dead flair, all wrapped in Seward’s entrepreneurial spirit.

Why It’s a Splash Hit

Born from local dreamers, the fest channels mermaid superpowers: strength, ingenuity, and harbor heartbeat. Vendors snapped up spots fast (apply early next year via the site). Costumes encouraged … bring your tail or tricorn hat!
