💅 Memaw’s Arctic Roll: Wipers On. Hands at 10 and 2.

Memaw’s Arctic Roll for Tuesday, July 14, 2026

☕️ Good morning, neighbors! Grab your coffee and give yourself a few extra minutes today. Rain is settling over much of Southcentral, the Anchorage Hillside is bracing for powerful wind gusts, and there’s a new work zone on the Seward Highway near Mileposts 73 to 75 where ditching operations mean flaggers, heavy equipment, and occasional stops. Add that to the usual summer construction around McHugh Creek and elsewhere, and today’s commute is one where patience will get you there faster than rushing. Let’s see what Tuesday has waiting down the road. 💅

🟡 Daily Verdict: Wet Roads and Windy Trouble Spots

  • Roads: Widespread rain is creating wet pavement across Southcentral. Wind Advisory in effect for the Anchorage Hillside and Seward Highway near Turnagain Arm. Monitor Alaska 511 for construction zones and traffic updates.
  • Traffic: Light overall, but expect slower travel where rain, construction, and strong crosswinds combine.
  • Sky: Aurora forecast Kp 3 (G0) tonight. Visibility will depend heavily on cloud cover, with rain and extensive clouds limiting viewing across much of Southcentral.

⚠️ Southcentral Watch

The National Weather Service wind advisory map highlights the areas expected to experience the strongest southeast winds Tuesday, including South Anchorage, the Anchorage Hillside, and the Seward Highway corridor from Potter Marsh to Bird Point, where gusts of 45 to 65 mph could make travel difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Location: Seward Highway between Potter Marsh and Bird Point

  • Status: Wind Advisory in effect
  • When: 4:00 AM until 10:00 PM Tuesday
  • Why: Southeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts between 45 and 65 mph
  • Impact: Difficult travel for high-profile vehicles. Loose outdoor items could blow around and isolated power outages are possible.

💅  Reality Check: If you’re towing a camper, hauling a trailer, or driving a tall vehicle, slow down and expect sudden gusts around Turnagain Arm.

💅 Memaw’s Parting Words

Some mornings are made for smooth sailing. Today isn’t one of them, and that’s okay. Take the curves a little slower, expect a stop or two in the construction zones, and don’t wrestle the wind. A calm driver almost always gets there before an impatient one.

Here’s hoping the rain eases by quitting time and the skies surprise us with a little aurora tonight.

Until tomorrow, neighbors… keep the shiny side up. 💙
