wo people were killed and a child was left with life-threatening injuries after a pickup truck crossed the median and crashed into three vehicles on the Glenn Highway near the S Curves Thursday morning, according to the Anchorage Police Department.
Police said officers responded to the scene at about 8 a.m. on July 9 after receiving reports of a multi-vehicle collision involving serious injuries.
The preliminary investigation found that a Ford F-150 crossed the median from the northbound lanes into the southbound lanes, where it collided with a GMC Acadia, a Ford Explorer and a Kia Soul.
The driver of the Ford F-150 and the driver of the Kia Soul were pronounced dead at the scene.
A juvenile passenger in the Kia Soul was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The drivers of the GMC Acadia and the Ford Explorer were not injured.
The crash shut down portions of the Glenn Highway for much of the day as officers documented the scene and investigators worked to determine what led to the collision. Traffic was heavily backed up through the area while lane restrictions remained in place.
By late afternoon, one inbound lane had reopened and outbound traffic had been reduced to two lanes. Later in the evening, the Anchorage Police Department announced that all lanes of the Glenn Highway had reopened.
The identities of the two people who died have not yet been released. Police said their names will be released after next-of-kin notifications have been completed.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact the Anchorage Police Department and reference Case 26-18146.
