Slow Down, Alaska. It’s a Snow Day Commute
By Gina Hill | Alaska Headline Living | January 2026
❄️ ☕️ Morning, Sugars! If you were hoping for an easy Tuesday, the weather had other plans. We are under a Winter Weather Advisory through 9 PM tonight, and this snow means business. Expect 4 to 8 inches total with periods of heavier snowfall right when folks are trying to get to work and get home. Visibility may drop to a half mile or less at times, and freezing drizzle is still lurking in spots. This is a slow down, plan ahead, and mind your manners kind of day on Alaska roads. 🚗

👵 Memaw’s Parting Words
Now listen to me. This is not the day to rush, not the day to tailgate, and sure not the day to test all-weather tires. The snow is steady, the visibility is poor, and the advisory is there for a reason. Give yourself grace, give other drivers space, and if you can delay a trip, that is just plain good sense. I want you home safe, warm, and still in a good mood when you hang up that coat tonight.
