A 66-year-old Fairbanks man is facing felony terroristic threatening charges after Alaska State Troopers say he made violent, politically targeted threats involving a union labor hall and was arrested following a SWAT standoff at his home.

Court records identify the suspect as Donald Scott McTaggart. According to a trooper affidavit, union representatives alerted authorities after receiving messages and statements they believed indicated a planned attack on the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) Local 942 union hall on Davis Road during a scheduled meeting, including an alleged statement that he would hold the building until “all the Democrats were dead.”

The affidavit also says McTaggart told the caller he had enlisted help from friends working on the North Slope and planned to conduct a briefing once the others arrived in Fairbanks. The alleged attack was tied to a union meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. on April 8, according to the court document.

Troopers say McTaggart was taken into custody after barricading himself inside his residence when law enforcement attempted contact. A Northern SWAT team responded, and he surrendered without injury.

During a subsequent search warrant, investigators reported seizing more than 40 firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition from the home.

McTaggart has been charged with two counts of second-degree terroristic threatening. If convicted, each count carries up to five years in prison and a $50,000 fine, with penalties that can run consecutively depending on sentencing. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
