Coffee, Cats, and Clearer Roads: Memaw’s Arctic Roll for Saturday, March 28, 2026

By Gina Hill | Alaska Headline Living | March 28, 2026

💅 Sugar, if your day started with a cat stroll across your face, congratulations. You’re properly observing National Respect Your Cat Day. That little mischief is doing exactly what they do best, making you smile while you’re being bossed around.

Across Southcentral Alaska, the roads are mostly behaving themselves today. There might be a few slick surprises early, but the longer daylight is slowly convincing winter to pack up and let spring tiptoe into view. Winter is not listening.

Until then, it’s the usual Alaska compromise. Sunshine, snowbanks high enough to hide a snow shovel, and a cat silently running the show like Stubbs, the honorary mayor of Talkeetna, presiding over Main Street with ultimate authority.

Stubbs at the West Rib Cafe & Pub in 2006, beloved honorary mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska (in office July 18, 1997 – July 21, 2017). A true local legend who ruled Main Street with charm and paws. Photo by Jenni Konrad, via Flickr.

🟢🟡🔴 Daily Verdict: Easy Cruise with a Chance of Lights

Roads: Mostly clear and winter-maintained across Southcentral
Traffic: Light weekend flow with no widespread Alaska 511 alerts
Sky: Partly cloudy today, and if clouds thin tonight the aurora might peek through
