Southcentral is warming up for a brighter day, with sunshine making an appearance across much of the region. But before you get too comfortable, there are a few road surprises waiting along the way, from active work zones to changing conditions and a little evening weather mischief. 🚧🌦️

Southcentral gets a mostly sunny afternoon in many spots, but showers could sneak into the Mat-Su and Seward corridors later. And tonight? The aurora is technically invited to the party, but she’s bringing a very small guest list. 🌌
🟢🟡🔴 Daily Verdict: Hazy Start, Sunny Finish, Construction in the Middle
Roads: Construction and maintenance remain active on the Glenn, Seward and Sterling corridors.
Traffic: Watch for lane closures, pilot cars, flagging and work-zone delays.

Glenn Highway Bridge Deck Preservation
- Northbound bridge: OPEN to traffic
- Southbound: Expect intermittent lane closures while the crossover detour is removed
- Work window: Monday through Friday, 11 AM to 4:30 AM; Friday 11 AM through Sunday 4:30 AM
- Speed reduction: 45 MPH
- Reality check: Northbound is open, but southbound is still wearing its construction-season personality. Slow down and watch the lane changes.

🚧 Seward Highway Roadwork / Maintenance
McHugh Creek Turn Lane, MP 111.5 to 112
- Watch for crews along the roadway.
- Nightly pilot cars: 8 PM to 5 AM
- Speed reduction: 45 MPH from MP 111 to 112
- Reality check: If you’re traveling through the work zone at night, expect the pilot car and plan for a slower trip.
Seward Highway MP 90 to 99
- Construction began August 2.
- Expect delays, nightly lane closures, flagging operations and/or pilot cars.
- Construction equipment and personnel are also working along the adjacent shared-use pathway.
- Reality check: This stretch is officially in construction mode. Build extra time into the trip.
Seward Highway MP 75 to 69
- Road maintenance is active all day, every day through October 2.
- Expect short delays, flagging and lane closures Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 6 PM.
- Reality check: Morning and afternoon commuters should expect the possibility of a slower roll through the work zone.

- Construction crews: Monday through Saturday, 6 AM to 7 PM
- Flagging occurs during blasting operations.
- Expect 5 to 10 minute delays.
- Watch for equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
- Trails within the corridor remain open.
- Reality check: When the signs say blasting, Memaw says you wait. Five to ten minutes beats arguing with a construction zone. 💅

🌌 Memaw’s Aurora Reality Check
The Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is calling current aurora activity low, with the regular dark-sky viewing season only beginning to ramp up toward late August.
The forecast range is Kp 2 to Kp 5. If skies clear, low-level aurora could occasionally be visible overhead farther north, while Anchorage and Juneau could see activity low on the northern horizon.
Translation: Don’t cancel your plans and build a bonfire waiting for the sky to explode. But if you’re outside tonight and the clouds cooperate, look north. 🌌💅

Today’s commute is basically Alaska saying, “Here, have some fog. Now have some sunshine. Oh, and don’t forget the construction.” 😂
