The Lower Matanuska Valley is the hot spot today, with the National Weather Service continuing a Heat Advisory for the Wasilla, Palmer and Big Lake areas. Anchorage stays considerably more comfortable, while the Kenai Peninsula is bringing cooler, cloudier conditions.

And construction? Honey, the cones did not take the weekend off.

So grab the coffee, hydrate before the afternoon heat arrives, and remember: the fastest way through a construction zone is usually to slow down.

And yes, honey, Memaw has checked the sunrise and sunset for each corridor because the Earth is round and Alaska is big. 🌎😂

🌌 Memaw’s Northern Lights Reality Check

The aurora is keeping things quiet tonight, with geomagnetic activity hovering around Kp 2.0 to 2.3 through August 10before potentially nudging up toward Kp 3.7 on August 11.

But here’s the catch, sugar: August darkness is still in short supply.

Sunset is around 10 PM across Southcentral, but true darkness remains limited. That makes tonight a poor setup for a significant northern-lights display around Anchorage, the Mat-Su and the Kenai Peninsula.

If you decide to go outside and stare at the sky anyway, Memaw recommends snacks.

The snacks will probably be more reliable. 😂

💅 Memaw’s Parting Words

Monday’s prescription is simple:

Water in the cup. Eyes on the road. Patience in the passenger seat. The Mat-Su is bringing the heat, the Glenn is bringing the bridge work, the Seward is bringing multiple construction zones, and the Sterling is bringing blasting.

Alaska is still doing that thing where one road is sunny while another is having an entirely different emotional experience.

Don’t race the commute.
