Memaw’s Arctic Roll for Thursday, July 2, 2026
💅 Good morning, hon! The morning commute is dry, which is a refreshing little miracle and frankly the least the universe could do before the rest of the day gets busy. Later on, showers wander in and tonight stays mostly cloudy, but the aurora is still out there acting like it has something to prove, so keep one eye on the road and one eye on the sky, because Alaska loves a plot twist
🟡🟢🟡 Daily Verdict: Cautious Cruise, Aurora Only If the Sky Cooperates
Roads: Mostly manageable, but wet pavement and work zones deserve respect.
Traffic: No 511 trouble reported.
Sky: The geomagnetic setup looks decent, but mostly cloudy skies tonight may hide the show.services.swpc.noaa+1

🚧 Glenn Highway construction information
GLENN HIGHWAY BRIDGE DECK PRESERVATION: Northbound traffic is rerouted onto the southbound bridge span using a zipper merge. The northbound Birchwood Loop on-ramp is closed until mid-July. Lanes are narrowed to 11 feet and a 45 MPH speed reduction is in effect.
Detour:
- Northbound: Exit at Birchwood, take the Old Glenn Highway to Peters Creek, then re-enter the Glenn.
- Southbound: Exit at Peters Creek, cross under the overpass to the Old Glenn Highway, then re-enter the Glenn at Birchwood.
💅 Memaw’s reality check: This isn’t a casual merge. It’s a slow, narrow squeeze that rewards patience and punishes freelancing. Pick your lane early and let the merge happen without starring in it.
