Good Sunday morning, sugar. The sun is climbing higher every day across Southcentral Alaska, and the roads are mostly calm for this late March Sunday. Winter’s grip is loosening just a touch, though early-morning refreeze can leave slick spots on bridges and shaded areas.
Today, as we navigate Parks, Glenn, Seward, Sterling, and Knik Goose Bay roads, we pause to honor National Vietnam War Veterans Day. This day recognizes the men and women who served during the longest conflict in United States history, many of whom returned home without the welcome they deserved. On March 29, 1973, U.S. combat and support units withdrew from South Vietnam, marking the end of active U.S. involvement, but leaving a lasting mark on generations of veterans, their families, and the nation. Over 58,000 never returned, and countless others carried invisible scars.
In particular, we salute Memaw’s uncle, Ira L. Taylor, whose homecoming captured the joy and relief that families experienced when loved ones returned safely. Observing today is simple: thank a Vietnam veteran, visit a memorial, buy a veteran a cup of coffee, or even share a respectful shout-out on social media with #VietnamWarVeteransDay.

Expect mild afternoons and safe road conditions on major highways. Tonight, if the clouds part, the aurora may quietly ripple across the sky, a gentle reward for another spring day in Alaska.
🟢🟡🔴 Daily Verdict: Smooth Sunday Roll with a Small Aurora Chance

Memaw’s Parting Words
Spring is tiptoeing into Alaska now. You can hear it in the longer daylight, see it in the afternoon sun on the mountains, and feel it in that little lift people get when the drive home is still bright.
So wherever you’re headed today, take it easy, enjoy the extra daylight, and remember the folks who paved the road before us.
And, to Uncle Ira L. Taylor and every Vietnam veteran, Alaska tips its hat today. Your service is not forgotten.

🚗💨 Now go on and roll safe, honey. Memaw’s watching the roads. 💅
