Two National Guardsmen were critically wounded in a shooting in Washington, D.C., earlier today, leaving authorities and the public awaiting official updates on their conditions. As of now, the only confirmed information comes directly from President Donald J. Trump, who posted a statement on his verified Truth Social account.
“The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price,” the President wrote. “God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!” Link to post.
According to the President’s post, both Guardsmen are being treated at separate hospitals, while the suspect remains severely wounded. Beyond this statement, no other government agency, including the Metropolitan Police Department, the Department of Defense, the National Guard Bureau, the Secret Service, or the FBI, has issued a public update.
The lack of official information has left many questions unanswered, including the identities of the Guardsmen, the shooter’s identity or motive, and how the incident unfolded. Officials are expected to provide more clarity in the coming hours, including potential statements from law enforcement and military authorities.
In the meantime, the President’s post serves as the sole verified account of the victims’ and suspect’s conditions, underscoring the uncertainty surrounding the incident. Authorities have not indicated when additional information will be released, and public safety and operational security measures in the area remain in place.
