Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos states investigators believe 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, remains out there as the search hits day six with no suspects named. About 100 PCSD detectives, Search and Rescue teams, and FBI support review camera footage, forensics, and nationwide tips, though expansion beyond Tucson stays undisclosed to protect the case.
Ransom notes sent to media surface without proof of life or clear demands; PCSD and FBI deem one an “imposter,” and the family reports no direct, verified abductor contact. FBI Special Agent in Charge Heith Janke offers a $50,000 reward for information leading to her recovery or arrests.
No persons of interest are being disclosed, and Sheriff Nanos notes “everybody’s still a suspect,” including family contacts under review. She suffers serious heart conditions and requires daily medication that could turn life-threatening after 24 hours without it.
Family reported her missing February 1 after she skipped church; her phone disconnected overnight, her blood appears on the porch via DNA, and her pacemaker signal drops around 2:28 a.m. on January 31 from her Catalina Foothills home near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue in Tucson, Arizona.
Her age, health needs, time elapsed, and lack of proof of life raise grave survival concerns, yet officials treat this as an active live-rescue operation.
Anyone with information on Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance is urged to call the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at (520) 351-6421 or the FBI tipline at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324).
