Firefighters will remain on scene for several hours performing follow-up inspections after quickly controlling a morning fire that sent flames and smoke rising near multiplex residential buildings close to Old Seward Highway and Tudor Road, according to the Anchorage Fire Department.
The fire was reported during the busy morning commute when motorists observed smoke and open flames near an outbuilding adjacent to residential structures. Officials said the fire spread from the outbuilding to nearby electrical lines, creating an elevated safety risk for firefighters working beneath the lines while deploying hose crews.
Fire crews established a water supply by connecting to a nearby hydrant and were able to contain the blaze within minutes of arrival, preventing further spread to surrounding buildings.
No injuries were reported. Fire officials said crews will continue monitoring the area to check for hidden hotspots that could potentially reignite as debris and structural materials cool.
