Memaw’s Winter Spin: Melty Roads, Ice, and Aurora for Thursday’s Trek

By Gina Hill | Alaska Headline Living | February 2026

☕️ Good morning, hon. Thursday is bringing a little Alaskan tease. It might flirt with 40°F today, but by tonight it drops to around 19°F, which means anything wet or melted will freeze over into slippery, icy stretches. Take it slow, keep your eyes on the road, and maybe sneak a peek at the northern lights later tonight if the skies cooperate.

Memaw’s Parting Words
Take it slow, hon. Today’s thaw-then-freeze pattern means melted spots this afternoon could bite back tonight as ice. Roads are melty and messy now, then tricky after dark. If you’re chasing the northern lights, the geomagnetic activity is teasing a show. Gloves and good boots for skywatching are a must! 🥾🧤
