Dense Fog Advisory in Effect for Anchorage Through Thursday Morning
A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for the Anchorage area until 9 AM Thursday, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute. The National Weather Service reports that visibility may drop to less than one quarter mile at times as thick fog settles across Southcentral Alaska.
Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and allow extra space between vehicles. Sudden pockets of near-zero visibility are possible, especially in low-lying areas and along major roadways.
Fog is not limited to Anchorage. The National Weather Service warns that areas of dense fog and abrupt visibility reductions may also develop across the Kenai Peninsula and the Matanuska Valley, where conditions can vary quickly from clear to dangerously obscured.
Before heading out, travelers should check Alaska 511 for the latest road conditions and any new advisories.
Residents are encouraged to give themselves extra time to reach their destinations and to monitor updated conditions throughout the morning. Stay safe and travel carefully as this foggy stretch continues. 🌫️
