Rabbits, Roosters, and Hens Placed in Protective Custody as Police and Animal Control Investigate

Anchorage Animal Care & Control (AACC), with assistance from the Anchorage Police Department, seized 150 animals yesterday from a single residence in an ongoing neglect investigation. The animals, which consist primarily of rabbits, roosters, and hens, are now under Protective Custody at the AACC shelter while authorities continue their investigation.
Officials say this large-scale seizure has temporarily filled the shelter to capacity.
Due to limited space, AACC is unable to accept additional small animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, and other similar pets. Residents who find stray small animals are asked to leave them where they are unless they can safely house them on their own. Stray cats and dogs are still being accepted.
AACC emphasizes that the best way for the community to help is by adopting available pets. Every adoption not only provides a loving home but also frees up space and resources for staff to care for the rescued animals. Community members are encouraged to scan stray animals for microchips and check local Facebook groups for owners before bringing them to the shelter.
