If today has a theme in Alaska news, it’s connections… or sometimes the lack of them. From public safety phone lines to international cyber networks, the story keeps circling back to how people, systems, and trails stay linked. Alaska!

Public Safety Communications Briefly Disrupted as Anchorage 311 Line Goes Offline (Now Resolved)

When help is needed, every ring matters. The Anchorage Police Department is working to restore 311 non-emergency dispatch and records phone service after a technical outage affecting community access.

The Anchorage Police Department reported technical issues affecting the 311 non-emergency dispatch and records phone lines in Anchorage on March 6, but officials have since confirmed the outage has been resolved and normal service restored.

The problem did not impact 911 emergency service, and residents were temporarily advised to call 911 if they could not reach 311 during the outage period.

This marked at least the third reported 311 service disruption in early 2026, following similar alerts earlier in January and February. Anchorage has also experienced broader public safety communications interruptions in recent years.

👉🏿 Why This Keeps Happening:

Anchorage’s dispatch network depends on a mix of municipal phone systems and private telecommunications infrastructure, meaning hardware, software, or routing failures can interrupt service. Officials have not yet confirmed the specific cause of this most recent outage.

International Child Exploitation Suspect Brought to Alaska for Federal Case

Federal agents were seen at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport as part of the international transfer operation involving suspect Zobaidul Amin. The case reflects ongoing global cooperation between U.S. and foreign authorities in cybercrime and child protection investigations. 📸 FBI

Federal authorities say Zobaidul Amin, 28, was transported from Malaysia to Alaska and arrested on U.S. federal charges related to the alleged operation of an international child sexual exploitation enterprise. Amin had been living and attending medical school in Malaysia before Malaysian authorities helped facilitate his transfer to the United States on March 4.

Amino is charged with multiple counts including conspiracy to produce, receive, and distribute child pornography, operating a child exploitation enterprise, cyberstalking, aggravated identity theft, and wire fraud. Prosecutors allege his activities involved hundreds of minor victims in Alaska, elsewhere in the U.S., and abroad.

The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Alaska and investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Amin is scheduled to make his initial appearance in federal court in Alaska as evidence continues to be reviewed.

Global Cybercrime Marketplace LeakBase Dismantled in International Operation

The shutdown of the LeakBase site by the Federal Bureau of Investigation is part of a larger effort to protect everyday people from identity theft, stolen passwords, and financial fraud that can touch anyone who shops, banks, or shares information online. 📸 U.S. Department of Justice

The United States Department of Justice announced the seizure of LeakBase, described as one of the world’s largest online marketplaces for stolen credentials, hacked databases, and cybercrime tools.

The operation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in coordination with international partners including Europol. Authorities shut down domains associated with the forum and collected digital evidence spanning 14 countries.

Investigators say the platform functioned as a major hub for the buying and selling of compromised financial, business, and personal information, helping enable identity theft and fraud networks operating across borders.

Officials say the takedown disrupts transnational cybercriminal groups that profited from stolen data and online exploitation schemes.

The Alaska International Airport System received an Aa3 Stable Outlook long-term credit rating from Moody’s Ratings.

The rating reflects the system’s solid financial position and the continuing importance of Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and Fairbanks International Airport as global crossroads for cargo shipments, passenger travel, and commerce that connects Alaska to the wider world.

The airport system handles millions of travelers each year while also supporting major international freight movements. Anchorage’s airport is especially known as a transpacific refueling and logistics stop because of Alaska’s geographic location between Asia and North America.

Officials say the credit outlook supports long-term infrastructure planning and helps maintain Alaska’s aviation role in global transportation networks.

Alaska RVs: Adventure Travel Meets Practical Living

An RV sits ready for adventure in Alaska’s wide-open wilderness, where the road keeps going, the mountains watch quietly, and the next great campsite might be just around the bend at the Alaska RV Show hosted by Dependable RV Anchorage.

The Alaska RV Show hosted by Dependable RV Anchorage runs March 6–8 at Cabela’s – South Anchorage.

Recreational vehicles remain popular among both Alaskans and visiting travelers because they provide flexible lodging options across long highway routes and remote recreation areas. For residents, RVs are often used for fishing trips, summer road travel, and extended outdoor adventures across the state’s vast terrain.

The show will feature Cherokee RV models, toy haulers, and outdoor recreation setups built with Alaska travel in mind. Exhibitors say special attention is given to insulation performance, frame durability, and cold-weather system preparation, areas that matter in a state where shoulder seasons can still feel winter-like.

Factory-trained product specialists will be on site to answer technical questions about structure design, heating efficiency, tank systems, and generator or solar readiness.

👉🏿 Event hours are Friday–Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
