Dr. Seuss Day Edition 📚❄️
By Gina Hill | Alaska Headline Living | March 2026
💅 Well GOOD morning, my dears, in your parkas and boots,
On this blustery morning of frostbitten routes!
Before you start whispering, “Memaw’s gone mad!”
Let me tell you the reason these rhymes are so rad.
Today is National Read Across America Day, hooray!
Also known as Dr. Seuss Day, hip-hip-hooray!
So no, I have not lost my marbles or mind,
I’m simply in Seussian spirits, one of a kind.
But listen up closely, don’t giggle too long,
This cold snap is serious, sharp, and strong.
The air is so frigid it nips at your nose,
It freezes your fingers right through your mitt-clothes.
The roads may look shiny and innocent-bright,
But slick little ice gremlins hide out of sight.
So read with your kiddos, enjoy a good book,
Then bundle up tight before that first icy hook.

💅 Memaw’s Parting Words: Seuss With Sense
So drive like the Turtle, not like the Hare,
Take it slow, take great care.
Put space ‘tween your bumper and cars up ahead,
Arrive warm and safe, not wishing you’d stayed in bed.
The cold will not argue, the ice will not warn,
It waits in the shadows of each frosty morn.
Check on your neighbors, your elders, your kin,
This freeze is no joke when the wind settles in.
Read something fun when the daylight is through,
A Cat in a Hat or Thing One and Thing Two.
But promise dear hearts as you travel today,
You’ll drive smart and cautious along your way.
For books are for joy, and rhymes are for cheer,
But safety is what gets you home each year.
Now scoot, little commuters, safe travels to you. 💖
With a respectful tip of Memaw’s fur-lined hat, humble apologies to the one and only Dr. Seuss for borrowing a sprinkle of that rhyming magic today in honor of National Read Across America Day.
