A new in-app channel lets creators broadcast straight to followers, but access is still selective.

TikTok has officially rolled out Bulletin Boards, a feature designed to let creators send direct, one-to-many updates to their followers. This move positions TikTok alongside other platforms that have embraced similar broadcast-style tools: Instagram has Broadcast Channels, YouTube offers Community Posts, and Snapchat allows Private Stories. The trend reflects a broader push by social media companies to give creators more direct ways to connect with their audiences.

How Bulletin Boards Work

Eligible creators, currently those aged 18+ with at least 50,000 followers, can create a bulletin board via the Inbox → Chat interface. Posts can include text, images, or video, with up to 20 bulletins per day and text lengths of around 1,000 characters. Followers cannot comment, but they are notified whenever a new bulletin is posted, ensuring updates reach audiences directly rather than being filtered through TikTok’s algorithm. Engagement is limited to emoji reactions.

TikTok frames Bulletin Boards as a tool for announcements, behind-the-scenes updates, reminders for live streams, or other time-sensitive content that might otherwise be missed on the main feed. Essentially, it functions like an in-app newsletter or broadcast channel.

Early Adopters

The rollout has initially targeted large accounts, brands, and publishers. Notable early adopters include:

  • People Magazine – sharing headlines and breaking news updates.
  • Paris Saint-Germain F.C. – delivering sports updates and team content.
  • The Jonas Brothers – posting behind-the-scenes content for fans.

These early examples demonstrate how Bulletin Boards can help creators maintain consistent, direct engagement with followers.

Regional Rollout & Access

While U.S.-based accounts appear to be included in the rollout, TikTok has not made Bulletin Boards universally available:

  • Rollout is selective, targeting eligible creators and brand accounts.
  • Access appears to be region- and account-type dependent, though the U.S. is included among early testers.
  • TikTok has not announced a timeline for full, global availability.

Even within regions where the feature exists, not all accounts immediately see the “Invite to Bulletin Board” option. Eligibility depends on account type (creator/brand profile) and follower count.

Why It Matters

TikTok’s Bulletin Boards represent a strategic shift. Historically, TikTok emphasized discovery—users finding new content via the For You Page. With broadcast-style tools, creators can maintain sustained, predictable contact with their audience.

This trend isn’t unique to TikTok:

  • Instagram Broadcast Channels let creators post updates directly to followers’ inboxes.
  • YouTube Community Posts provide creators a way to share text, images, polls, and videos with subscribers outside standard video uploads.
  • Snapchat Private Stories allow creators to share ephemeral content with select followers.

By adopting this model, TikTok is joining a broader industry move toward direct, one-to-many communication—balancing viral discovery with predictable follower engagement.

Considerations & Limitations

  • Followers cannot comment; interaction is limited to emoji reactions.
  • Feature availability is controlled and selective.
  • Engagement depends on followers actively joining the bulletin board.
  • Best practices for content strategy are still emerging.

Looking Ahead

TikTok may expand access, introduce paid or subscriber-only bulletin boards, or add richer interactive features. Analysts will be monitoring adoption across creator types, follower engagement, and content performance.

As social platforms increasingly adopt one-to-many messaging tools, Bulletin Boards could help TikTok evolve from a purely discovery-driven platform into a space where creators maintain deeper, ongoing relationships with their audiences, while still embracing the viral nature of the platform.
