💅 Memaw’s Arctic Roll: Drive Alive from Dawn to Night

Sunlight Stretch, Smooth Roads & a Birthday Ride for Zachary 🎉

By Gina Hill | Alaska Headline Living | March 31, 2026 | Happy Birthday, Zachary! 🎂

Well now, sugar. Southcentral Alaska woke up to one of those bright, sharp mornings where the sky is blue enough to fool you into thinking spring has fully arrived. The sunshine is real, but the air still bites. Cold temps are hanging on, yet the roads across much of the Mat-Su, Anchorage, and the Kenai are behaving themselves thanks to dry weather and good visibility. 💖

That means most drivers can expect a steady, predictable commute today. Just keep an eye on the usual trouble spots where yesterday’s melt froze overnight. Bridges, shaded curves, and ramps still deserve a little respect. And that hill going down into Settlers Bay … yep.

And before we get too far down the road today, Memaw has something important to say. Happy 14th birthday to my grandson Zachary. Fourteen years of grit, heart, and growing into a young man I’m mighty proud of. If you see a little extra sunshine today, just know Memaw says that’s Zachary’s birthday glow lighting up Southcentral. 🎂

Zachary, age 14 and already taller than half the people trying to give him advice. Birthday energy, big plans ahead, and just enough teenage attitude to keep Memaw on her toes. Happy birthday, sweet boy. 🎉💖

🌌 Tonight might bring one more present. Space weather models show aurora activity around Kp 3, and if skies stay mostly clear you might catch faint northern lights rippling across darker areas outside the cities.

💅 Memaw’s Parting Words

Before you hang up the keys tonight, Memaw wants to say one more thing.

Happy 14th birthday, Zachary! You’ve grown into a strong young man with a good heart, and I couldn’t be prouder to call you my grandson. Keep chasing big dreams, keep standing tall, and remember Memaw’s always cheering you on no matter where the road takes you. 🥰🥳💖

Last month’s wrestling meet at Begich Middle School. Zachary breaks down his master plan for victory to Memaw like a seasoned coach. Fourteen years old and already explaining takedown strategy like he’s running the mat. 🏆😍

Drive safe out there today, Alaska. And if the northern lights decide to dance tonight, just imagine they’re putting on a little birthday show for Zachary too. 🎂✨
