🌬️ Wind and Cold Today

Strong north winds continue through the morning across Southcentral including Anchorage, Eagle River, the Mat-Su Valley and sections of the Glenn Highway corridor with gusts that have reached 60 to 70 mph in some spots. These winds can blow loose snow back onto roadways and make steering tougher on open sections. Wind chills may feel well below zero, especially in exposed spots.
This pattern is expected to gradually moderate later this week, but cold nights and slick mornings will remain typical through much of the upcoming week. National Weather Service

❄️ Memaw’s Holiday Road Wisdom

  • Check 511.alaska.gov before every trip for updated road conditions. Alaska 511
  • Slow down and expect black ice in shaded and bridge areas.
  • Strong wind can move snow across pavement quickly so visibility may change without much notice.
  • Winter or studded tires and a full emergency kit are still a good idea.
