The Matanuska‑Susitna Borough has declared a disaster following a major windstorm that affected the region from December 5 to December 9, 2025. 🌪️ Wind gusts reached at least 89 miles per hour, and sustained winds exceeded 50 miles per hour. The storm caused significant damage to homes, vehicles, public infrastructure, and utilities. The Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center is open as an emergency shelter for residents who lost power or heat. 🐾 Pets are allowed if contained in crates. The shelter will remain open until local officials determine it is no longer needed.

The Matanuska Electric Association reports that as of 2:00 AM on Wednesday, December 6, all members have been restored with power. Crews remain in the field to assess storm damage, make permanent repairs, and remove trees from lines. Members are encouraged to report any visible damage to MEA equipment or trees on power lines by calling 907‑761‑9300.
