✨Memaw’s Arctic Commute with Aurora Sparkle for Wednesday, January 21, 2026

👵 Well, hey there, sweetheart. Bundle up and mind those slick spots because winter is holding firm today. We’ve got cold temps, frosty highways, short daylight hours, and to sweeten the deal, a possible northern lights show after dark. Along with your road conditions and temperatures from NOAA and Weather.gov, Memaw added an aurora forecast so you know whether it’s worth steppin’ outside tonight and lookin’ north. Drive smart by day, and if the skies behave, enjoy the light show by night.

The official Geophysical Institute aurora forecast map shows predicted geomagnetic activity levels across Alaska for January 21, helping aurora chasers gauge where and when the northern lights are most likely to appear in the dark hours.

Memaw’s Bonus Aurora Tip Real Quick: Higher Kp numbers (like over 5 early night) mean a better chance of seeing real dancing lights up in the sky. As the night wears on, that geomagnetic activity may settle into a still decent but calmer level. So, if you’re heading out late tonight keep that camera handy and check cloud skies too. Clear, dark skies will make that aurora pop even if the temps don’t.

Drive safe and enjoy the lights if they make an appearance!
