✨ Memaw’s Morning Fairy-Dust Road Waltz ✨

Morning Sparkle from Memaw
Good morning, my dears. Here’s your sparkly little road check from ol’ Memaw for everyone braving the highways in Southcentral Alaska. Picture a swirl of twinkling snowflakes, the gentle hum of your engine, and a little pep in your step, or at least on your brake pedal. The weather is playful this morning with a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, and maybe a dusting of snow. Moist air is hanging low, and with temperatures dancing around the freezing mark, some roadway patches may turn slick. It’s the kind of morning where the world looks shiny, but that shimmer can be slippery.

Between Wasilla and Palmer, the road is mostly wet. In low spots or shaded stretches, a thin glaze may form. The pavement can look like it’s sparkling for the holidays, but don’t let it trick you.

Glenn Highway

Through Eagle River and Chugiak, bridges and shaded bends are acting a little mischievous. Surface temperatures are flirting with freezing, and while crews are keeping close watch, it’s best to ease into the curves with care.

Along Turnagain Arm and especially in Turnagain Pass, conditions turn more dramatic. Heavier snow is possible, with blowing snow and reduced visibility in some stretches. Officials have cautioned that travel may be difficult through portions of the pass this morning.

Sterling Highway

Out toward the Kenai Peninsula, road sensors hint at packed snow and icy patches at higher elevations, with wetter, slushier stretches closer to town. The road seems to be playing dress-up: Satin-slick up top, then tumbling into velvety curls like the road’s practicing for a winter runway show.

💅 Memaw’s Glimmering Tips
Slow and steady is the name of the game. Treat the roads like they’re wearing a delicate crystal sheen. Give yourself more time than usual. Remember that bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas freeze first. Keep your headlights on to cut through the moody sky. Leave plenty of space between you and the car ahead. And tuck a little comfort in your vehicle … warm coffee/tea/cocoa, a blanket, and a charger just in case the morning throws you a curveball.

💖 Drive gently and twinkle safely, sweetheart. If you want a fresh run of the latest conditions or live 511 camera snapshots, just say the word.
