Authorities confirm the body of 9-year-old Melodee Buzzard, who had been missing since early October, has been recovered, and her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder. The discovery brings an end to weeks of uncertainty and a search that captured national attention.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said that investigators located Melodee’s remains in a rural area of Wayne County, Utah. DNA testing conducted by the FBI confirmed the identity of the child. Authorities have described the case as a tragic and deliberate act, and they are now focused on building a full legal case against Ashlee Buzzard.
